Financial Policies

The Center for Restorative Spine Surgery (CRSS) will bill your health
insurer directly for the services provided.  If payment is not received
from your insurer within in a reasonable period of time, you will then
become responsible for payment of the balance due.  If we receive
payment from your insurance company after you have paid your
account, we will promptly refund those funds to you. CRSS accepts
both Mastercard and Visa. We will charge a finance charge of 16% if
your account is more than 60 days overdue from the date of service.
For patients with no medical coverage, payment for services is due
and payable when you arrive in our clinic.
Courtesy Review of a Recent MRI Study

CRSS, as a public service, has offered in the past to review outside
MRI studies at no charge for potential patients.  This offer,
unfortunately, has been too well received and the volume of it has
become too great for us to handle.  For this reason this service, as of
January 1, 2008 has been discontinued.  Evaluations for the purpose
of diagnosis and treatment are now limited only to patients who are
actually seen and examined at CRSS.

As a means of saving money some institutions have instituted a policy
of copying a patients imaging studies to a CD-ROM rather than
providing a hard copy of these. The fine print accompanying a CD
typically indicates that it "should not be used for diagnostic purposes".
Clearly hard copy is better.
Each institution has its own software formats (there is presently no
universal standard).  The ability of computers to read these CDs
varies.  Some can not be loaded at all.  The time entailed in loading
and reading from a CD is much greater than that from films and quality
is compromised.  Another important advantage of films is the
physician's ability to review these with the patient (something which we
consider to be important) and to use these films as a guide if surgery is
necessary.

Under special circumstances CRSS is willing to consider reviewing
images on CDs but, because of the time involved we require that if
they are on a CD that this be delivered to CRSS at least a week in
advance of a clinical visit.  If the images are of poor quality, or
outdated a updated, high-resolution, MRI may be required.
